In October 2015, then-Georgia Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb's football career nearly ended. At the time, the university announced that Chubb had "suffered a significant knee injury," resulting in "damage to multiple ligaments and cartilage." Instead, Chubb was able to enjoy an eight-year NFL career with the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans, and he's walking away from the game on his own terms. "Today's the day I've been avoiding for a while," Chubb wrote in a lengthy letter posted to Instagram on Friday night. "Twelve-year-old me could never imagine this day, and 30-year-old me is wondering where all the time has gone. I've known for some time now, but I'm finally ready to share that I'm done playing football." Following his knee injury in 2015, Chubb returned in full force in September 2016 and thrived for the Bulldogs over the following two seasons before the Cleveland Browns selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He became one of the NFL's best backs — recording four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons between 2019 and 2022 — before injury struck again. In September 2023, Chubb tore his MCL and damaged his meniscus and medial capsule, requiring several surgeries before he could return to game action in October 2024.
